Cherry Blossoms in Takayama, Gifu (Ryokan Seiryu)

You can enjoy full cherry blossoms from April 15 through 20 at Nakabashi, a red bridge located only a 10-minutes walk from Ryokan Seiryu.

Ryokan Ohto is conveniently located only a 10-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station and surrounded by famous temples and shrines. Among them are Tofuku-ji Temple which is famous for spring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, Sanjusangen-do Temple, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kodai-ji Temple, Chishaku-in Temple, and the national museum of modern art, Kyoto. At Toji Temple, "Kobo-ichi", whichi means a flea market, is held on the 21st at every month. Many open stalls line up inside the temple, selling commodities, antiques, and more.

Many famous sights and historic spots are scuttered in a 10 to 15 minutes walk distance from Ryokan Ohto and this is the place you can enjoy Kyoto throughout a year.

  • "Omizutori" (Water-drawing ceremony) at Nigatsu-do, Todai-ji Temple
      - When: March  1 - 14
      - What: Traditional Buddhist ceremony lasting 1,259 years which the temple priests pray for the peace of the country and the prosperity of people.

  • Treasure Exhibition
      - Where: Gango-ji Temple (just a 5-minutes walk from Ryokan Matsumae)
      - When: February 7 - 14, from 9:00 to17:00
      - What: Zen-shitsu Yogono-ma and Chiko mandara, national treasure usually not open to the public

      - Where: Denko-ji Temple (just a 10-minutes walk from Ryokan Matsumae)
      - When: March 10 - April 4, from 9:00 to16:00
      - What: Jizo Bosatsu statue (important cultural asset) and Nara camellia

  • Ume/Plum Blossom Festival
      - Where:
      Kataoka Umebayashi, about 300 plums around Marumado-tei in Nara Park
      Tsukigase Umebayashi, about 10,000 plums along Nabarigawa River.
